Breast Augmentation

What types of breast implants are commonly used? What is the difference between them?
All breast implants have a similar outer shell made of more than 35 different components and based on silicone. The breast implant is a silicone shell filled with either silicone gel or saline. Each breast implant has positives and negatives - there is no ideal one. Implants can be round or drop shaped.

By how many sizes can breasts be increased to look beautiful and harmonious?
To select the right breast implants, it is necessary to measure the breast base width, consider the patient's height, peculiarities of the chest. It is very important to evaluate the condition of breast soft tissues, skin elasticity, subcutaneous tissue, size of the milk gland. By inserting an implant behind each breast surgeons are able to increase a woman's bustline by one or two bra cup sizes.

How is breast correction surgery done? What are the features specific for the postoperative period?
Breast augmentation with implants is an inpatient procedure. It is done under a general anesthesia. The surgery usually takes 1 hour to complete, if it is not combined with breast lift. Most of patients can go home on the surgery day. The first 3-5 days are the most difficult when you may experience some pain and tightness in the breast area. Pain can be relieved with medications prescribed by your surgeon. You should wear a special surgical bra day and night and limit shoulder motions for four weeks.

Can this surgery be performed to every woman who wants to increase her breasts?
Usually surgical breast correction is performed to a healthy adult woman. It is forbidden to perform this surgery on patients with autoimmune diseases, chronic pulmonary, heart and blood vessel diseases, diabetes, and active infections in the organism such as tuberculosis.

Can women breast-feed after breast augmentation?
The breast implants do not influence the pregnancy in any way. As the breast implant is placed below the mammary gland or under the muscle, the gland function (milk production) is not affected.

How long do breast implants last? Are breast implants dangerous?
There is no ideal breast implant developed until now to serve all the rest life. Almost all breast implants will eventually need to be replaced. Implants are basically designed to give 10 - 15 years of service before needing to be changed to a new set. In 1999, the Institute of Medicine (USA) issued a report (400 pages) based on clinical studies. It concluded that breast implants do not cause any diseases dangerous to women's health including cancer and allergies. So implants are considered safe.
Breast Lift

Why does the breast shape change? What changes should you expect?
During pregnancy milk glands are preparing for milk production and get bigger. A woman's breasts generally become larger and heavier. Breastfeeding may cause atrophy of the glandular breast tissue and reduction of milk glands. That leaves stretched breast skin with loss of elasticity. Breastfeeding can result in droopy or saggy breasts lacking firmness. You may experience the same changes in your breasts if you suddenly lose a considerable amount of weight.

How can the breast shape be corrected?
The main cause of sagging breasts is skin excess. Breastlift, or mastopexy, can help to correct sagging breasts. During this surgical procedure the nipple and areola are moved to the higher position, the excess skin is removed, and the breast is reshaped. Mastopexy can also reduce the size of the stretched areola. Breast lifts are usually performed under general anaesthesia. Mastopexy usually takes about two hours. A patient who was admitted to the clinic will be released in 24 hours following the operation. All patients want to know if this surgery leaves visible scars. In fact, all operations, including aesthetic surgery, leave scars but they gradually fade and become barely noticeable. Stitches in breastlift are usually located around the areola, in a vertical line extending downwards from the areola, and horizontally along the lower crease of the breast where they are hided. The procedure will not affect the milk gland, and it will not leave you with a loss of feeling in your nipples. If your breasts are small or have lost volume - for example, after pregnancy and breast-feeding - breast implants inserted in conjunction with mastopexy can increase both their firmness and their size. Breast augmentation can also be performed in 6-12 months following breastlift.

Whether any special care is required in the postoperative period?
After surgery, you'll need to wear a special bra around the clock for three to four weeks as an outside source of support to keep the breast shape. Your breasts will be swollen, sensitive and uncomfortable for a certain time, but the pain shouldn't be severe. It can be relieved with medications prescribed by your surgeon. Patients are normally able to return to work after 5-7 days. You may be instructed to avoid sports for about a month. The postoperative period is short but the final breast lift results are apparent only within 6-9 months.

Breast Reduction

What are the reasons for breast reduction?
Breast reduction is most often performed to ease physical discomfort, such as difficulty in breathing, backache and irritation at the crease of the breasts, and can make physical activity more comfortable.

Is it a complicated operation? How long does it take? What are peculiarities of postoperative recovery?
Breast reduction is actually very similar to breast lift. It is performed under general anesthesia. The surgery will take approximately two hours. Patients will be released from the clinic within 2 days but it depends on the postoperative condition of the patient. It is recommended to wear a special bra for one month following the surgery.

Will breast reduction leave scars?
Breast reduction does leave scars: horizontal ones in the crease under the breast, scars around the areola, vertical ones extending from the areola to the fold beneath the breast. They usually fade and become less noticeable over the course of a year.
